Red Wagon Competition

About the competition...

In order to connect youth groups and to encourage widespread community participation that will result in activities that serve to improve Fall River, youth groups and youth-serving agencies were challenged to compete in the 2nd Annual Red Wagon Competition, which kicked-off during the MLK Days of Service, January 16-19 and ran until Global Youth Service Days, April 24-26.

The Red Wagon Competition is a contest designed to promote civic engagement through community service projects that fulfill America's Promise. Five winning projects will receive a coveted Red Wagon and a gift card to Wal*Mart.

The community service projects helped to build the character and competence of Fall River's youth and fulfilled at least one of the five promises.

Promise 1 Mentor : Ongoing relationships with caring adults, parents, mentors, tutors or coaches

Promise 2 Protect : Safe places with structured activities during non-school hours

Promise 3 Nurture : A healthy start and future

Promise 4 Prepare : Marketable skills through effective education

Promise 5 Serve : Opportunities to give back through community service
